Powers and history
Because I should probably mark it down somewhere.
Gretchen is a werewolf based loosely on Werewolf: the Forsaken, a role-playing game by White Wolf. She has two basic sets of powers: her shapeshifting, and a little bit of magic.
Shapeshifting
Gretchen can transform herself into either a wolf or a human. Additionally, she can take on a war form, which is somewhere in the middle -- she becomes a vaguely bipedal, 8 foot tall, 200+ pound, ultra strong killing machine. However, war form is exhausting and dangerous to be in; under normal circumstances, she can't keep it up for more than a couple of minutes. She can involuntarily be sent into war form either under extreme duress, or if she's incredibly angry.
Magic
Gretchen has access to a couple of magical powers. She can tell when supernatural/non-human creatures are around, although she can't identify them. She can also do a couple of things with technology; she can extinguish all electric lights within a space roughly the size of a small house, and she can cause a mechanical device (anything with 2+ moving parts) to become inoperable for a short amount of time.
World of Darkness
Essentially this world, except it kind of sucks. Things are a little darker, a little more dangerous, and a variety of unpleasant things are rather more likely to happen to you. Supernatural creatures exist and have formed their own societies separate and hidden from humanity; as a general rule, they try to stay hidden.
Gretchen is loosely a WoD character; I've deleted some of her powers and fiddled a little with what werewolves do when they're in the office (so to speak).
On being a werewolf
Being a werewolf is a hereditary thing, not something transmissible. A werewolf's children have a chance of being werewolves themselves. Being bitten won't get you anything except a really nasty wound.
Werewolves don't involuntarily shapeshift during the full moon; on the other hand, each werewolf is strongly associated with a phase of the moon, and often feel a need to shapeshift during that part of the lunar cycle.
A very brief history
Gretchen was born near San Francisco to a werewolf father and a human mother. Her parents split up when she was young, and she was primarily raised by her mother. She remained unaware of being a werewolf until she got to college; she awakened midway through her junior year. After a bit of horrified flailing around and with a little guidance from her father, she joined a pack and was acclimating well. After graduation, she remained in the area until the rest of her pack was killed; unsure of what else to do, she traveled back home and has been living with her mother ever since. She is a programmer, and primarily does freelance work while she tries to sort out her life.
